Young Actors Screen Ensembles

Welcome

The National Drama School invites budding young actors to join one of our new Young Actors Ensembles, where you will work together to create, rehearse and deliver an end of year performance for family and friends.

Experimenting with different characters, throwing casting-types out the window, using games, exercises and both scripted texts and improvisation, we allow students room to express themselves, practise technique and use their imaginations – all while having FUN and making new friends.

Whether you’re an aspiring stage actor or a potential movie star, The National Drama School Young Actors Ensembles offer a fun and playful opportunity for ensemble members to learn the craft of stage and screen acting, build confidence and self-esteem, and express themselves creatively, in a safe and inclusive environment.

With a maximum of 16 members in each ensemble, our Young Actors Ensembles for stage or screen acting are suitable for primary and secondary school students in years five to twelve. Students will be allocated to an ensemble based on medium (stage or screen) and year groups.

Enrol your child now to nurture and extend their creative journey!

The Young Actors Screen Ensemble for Juniors is suitable for primary school students in years five and six.

The Screen Ensemble offers children a chance to gain the dramatic skills and technical knowledge they need to be young screen actors by working and playing together in class, on camera and off.

Focussing on the differences and similarities between acting for stage and screen, playing with different genres, trying a variety of roles largely within casting type and self-taping – making sure each student has footage to take home at the end of each term which they can use for their own portfolios.

Students will have room to express themselves, practise technique and use their imaginations – all while having FUN and making new friends.

Over four school terms, ensemble members’ learning will focus on five key areas

  • Voice/Delivery
  • Movement/Physicality
  • Technical
  • Character/Text Work
  • Artistic/Personal Development

Each term’s work centres around one main focus:

  • T1 – Self Tapes
  • T2 – Genre Play
  • T3 – Scene Work
  • T4 – Industry Prep

The Young Actors Screen Ensemble (Intermediate) is available to secondary school students in years 7-9.

This Screen ensemble offers members the opportunity to develop further as young screen actors by practising and experimenting together in class, on camera and off.

At this level, students are regularly taking on new texts, taping more often and acquiring a solid foundation of acting for camera techniques across a variety of genres and styles.

Alongside the usual games, warm ups and rehearsals, they will be presented with new challenges which will deepen their understanding and enjoyment of the work.  We create the space for students to make new discoveries, express themselves, improve audition technique, grow their skill set and use their imaginations – all while having FUN.

The Young Actors Screen Ensemble for Seniors is available to secondary school students in years 10-12.

The senior level of screen actor training is about equipping students with the tools, knowledge and confidence they need to soon take on the professional world independently, as artists. Without losing their sense of fun, or ability to fail forwards, we push students to be frequently learning new texts, working at a faster turn around, reinforcing fundamentals and trying out a variety of ways to approach any given text or character. As our students grow as actors, we provide the nurture and space they need to add depth, naturalism and emotional connection to their performances. Furthermore we make sure students have their self-taping and audition techniques honed, acting as the starter kit they need to enter the film and TV industry.

Throughout the school year, we continue to teach across these categories:

    • Voice/Delivery
    • Movement/Physicality
    • Technical
    • Character/Text Work
    • Artistic/Personal Development
